  • The former Chelsea man now needs to find a new club if he is to extend his football career

Cesc Fabregas’ spell at Monaco has come to an underwhelming end after an injury-filled stint in France.

The former Chelsea and Arsenal man joined Monaco amid a lot of optimism in 2019, but has only made 67 appearances for the Ligue 1 side in more than two years.

Last season, he only managed to feature five times, and Monaco have now opted against offering the Spaniard a new deal.

On their club website, Monaco confirmed Cesc Fabregas’ exit a lengthy tribute, but there were several admissions in the same statement.

"The former Barcelona academy product was unfortunately held back by injuries last season.” Read the tribute.
"He nonetheless kept a vital role at the heart of our squad, never stopped encouraging his team-mates, and remained valuable in word and deed.
"He has an exceptional CV, with 833 top-level games played - with the earliest under Arsene Wenger's management and alongside Thierry Henry at Arsenal.

Fabregas, 35, now has his career in limbo, and there have been suggestions that the World Cup winner could be tempted to hang his boots if he is not snapped up by another top club.

One of his more successful spells as a footballer came at Chelsea, a club he joined in 2014 from Barcelona.

With the Blues, he reiterated his talents as a midfield maestro, winning two Premier League titles as well as the Europa League and FA Cup.

Samir Nasri opens up on what ended his career

Elsewhere, Sports Brief reported of how Samir Nasri’s doping ban in 2018 affected his football career.

Nasri, now 34, was found guilty of doping in 2016 after visiting the Drip Doctors medical centre.

At the time, Nasri was on loan at Sevilla and after serving a 12-month ban, he was allowed to return back to the game.
