  • Pitso Mosimane's unexpected departure from Al Ahly continues to wag tongues in Egypt, with observers giving varying opinions on the news
  • There has been talk that the 57-year-old was showing favouritism towards certain players, which led to a grumpy changeroom
  • In the final days of his tenure out in Egypt, Mosimane was being pilloried by sections of the media and former players

Pitso Mosimane's sudden departure from Al Ahly continues to reverberate through Egyptian football with opinions coming from all corners.

This time, veteran coach in the Egyptian Premier League Mohamed Omar believes that the 57-year-old showed favouritism towards certain players over others, which led to the changeroom possibly splitting.

According to Soccer Laduma, Omar pointed to Mosimane's compatriot Percy Tau as a sore point, saying:

"Percy Tau is a very good player, but Luis Miquissone hasn't shown good performances with Al Ahly yet, despite that, Mosimane always gave him chances. On the other hand, Mosimane didn't give other players like Hossam Hassan nearly as many chances as he gave Miquissone, which is unfair."

Meanwhile, Mosimane has no hard feelings with regards to the club, saying that it was a privilege for him to work there.

Goal quoted him saying:

"I want to clarify that I am on good terms with the club board and management. No one forced me to leave. It was a great opportunity for me to coach this great team. Al Ahly is the biggest team in Africa, and it was an honour for me to coach a club of such stature.
"We have to understand that everything comes to an end, which is what happened. I have great memories and special moments here. Not many managers get the chance to coach Al Ahly. I am lucky to have had the opportunity to work here. Yes, I will leave the team, but I want everyone to know that this club means a lot to me."

"Pitso Mosimane was under the impression that Al Ahly was like Mamelodi Sundowns": Al Ahly and Egypt legend

Despite winning a truckload of trophies with Al Ahly, Pitso Mosimane was always going to be under pressure from demanding affiliates of the club.

As reported by Sports Brief, this is what former Red Devils and Egypt star midfielder Mohamed Nagy Geddo after the 57-year-old South African called it quits on Monday with the Cairo-based giants.

Geddo felt that morale and trust towards the 57-year-old from within the team had dipped during his final few games in charge.
