  • Tottenham Hotspur's visit to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in the second game week will be an eye-opener for Antonio Conte regarding his team's improvement or lack thereof
  • New Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag will then have the opportunity to challenge Liverpool's and Manchester City's dominance early on when he hosts the latter
  • The two fixtures pitting Liverpool and Manchester City will also be key to determining who walks away with the title

The fixtures of the new season of the Premier League were released and fans and clubs alike are already excited for the new season. Many will face the new season with renewed hope as clubs strive to stop Manchester City from winning a fifth title in six years.

Erik ten Hag will also be tasked with resuscitating Manchester United's fortunes as Antonio Conte looks to turn Tottenham Hotspur into title challengers. Nottingham Forest will be making a return to the top-flight after over two decades in the cold.

Here at Sports Brief, we take a look at five fixtures that will shape the season.

1. Chelsea vs Tottenham - August 13th 2022

This London Derby will come early in the season with it being the key game of the second game week. Conte has shown intent in the transfer market already with Ivan Perisic's deal done and Yves Bissouma rumoured to be on his way.

This fixture will provide Conte with a real idea of how much progress his side have made. Thomas Tuchel will also want to know if his side can close the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City.

2. Manchester United vs Liverpool - August 20th 2022

This will be Ten Hag's first big test. United fans are still reeling from the 5-0 demolition last year and the new head coach will be seeking to calm the fans. Liverpool will also be out to exact early dominance with another victory at Old Trafford.

3. Newcastle United vs Manchester City - August 20th 2022

On the same day of the North-West derby, we will have Newcastle's first meeting with the proverbial top six. The Magpies are still relatively quiet in the transfer market but will be expected to make some high-profile signings given their huge financial muscle.

4. Liverpool vs Manchester City - October 15th 2022

Both clubs will have an early opportunity to parade their new strikers Darwin Nunez and Erling Haaland in this Anfield meeting. It is a fixture that has become very important in the English calendar with both title contenders sizing each other up.

5. Manchester City vs Liverpool - April 1st 2022

The reverse fixture will similarly be a hot cake. Both sides will be expected to push all the way for the title and the Etihad meeting on April Fool's Day might just as well decide who the winner will be.

Here's a detailed look at all the fixtures of the upcoming Premier League season.

Chelsea handed a tricky set of fixtures under their new owner

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Chelsea will open their English Premier League campaign against Everton at the Goodison Park on August 6th.

The Premier League has just released the fixtures of the new season that will start earlier due to the FIFA World Cup in November.

Thomas Tuchel dropped four points against Toffees last season, drawing the first leg against Rafael Benitez before Chelsea legend and former manager, Frank Lampard engineered a shock victory in the second leg.
