FootballDilemma for Amina Mohamed As FKF Transition Committee’s Tenure Comes to an End
- The government, through the Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed is expected to announce the next steps following the conclusion of the term of the Transition Committee
- The Committee led by retired judge Justice Aaron Ringera has been in office for five weeks and their term comes to an end on the 16th of June
- Kenya's football has been under the management of football committees following the removal of Nick Mwendwa's Football Kenya Federation last year
All eyes will be on the Sports Cabinet Secretary Ambassador Amina Mohamed as she will be expected to give new directions on the management of football matters in the country.
Mohamed had appointed a Transition Committee on May 11th that was supposed to run football affairs in the country for five weeks. The Committee had taken over from the Caretaker committee that had been in place initially for a period of six months.
All of these came from the removal of office of the Football Kenya Federation led by its president Nick Mwendwa. Mwendwa was alleged to have failed to account for funds remitted to his office dating back to Harambee Stars' qualification and participation in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) of 2019.
The world governing body for football, FIFA, subsequently banned Kenya from all football activities, citing contravention of its statutes and rules. The repercussions have been severe, with the national teams failing to participate in qualification matches for continental tournaments.
The government-backed committees have been in charge of the Kenyan Premier League, which were won by Tusker FC and Vihiga Queens.
Mozzart Sports now reports that a new team called the Management Committee can be installed to begin the process of conforming with FIFA's demands. A Special General Meeting was held last week that met to ponder the next viable steps.

Sports Brief has also reported that just a few days before the Africa Senior Athletics Championships in Mauritius, Caroline Nyaga was just another person.
Relatively unknown in the Athletics circles. In fact, much of the focus was on Africa's fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala who was keen on bagging three medals in Africa's top athletics meet.
He ended up winning two, with a memorable race in the 100 metres to dethrone Akani Simbine from South Africa.
