- A new tournament that will prelude the Champions League is set to be introduced by UEFA and it will begin in 2024
- The winner of the Champions League and three other top clubs in Europe will form part of the tournament that will have a semifinal and a final
- The Super Cup will now be a preserve between the winner of the Europa League and the winner of the Conference League
The governing body for football in Europe, UEFA is preparing to introduce a new tournament that will be played just before the Champions League.
The tournament will act as more of a curtain-raiser to Europe’s biggest competition as it will start before the Champions League. UEFA intends to introduce the new tournament in 2024.
It is also worth noting that in the same year, UEFA plans to roll out the new format of the Champions League that will scrap the four-teams group stages.
The new tournament will have four teams with the winner of the previous Champions League competing in it as Marca reports. The report further states that the European Super Cup will remain but the defending Champions League winner won't participate in it. The winner of the Europa League and the winner of the Conference League will be the competitors in the Super Cup.
Which teams will make part of this new tournament?
The winner of the Champions League trophy in the past season will be involved. Three ‘very successful clubs’ will also be included or the top finishers in Europe’s League tables.
UEFA is said to be looking at the possibilities of hosting this new tournament in the United States of America. It will be something akin to what La Liga does with the Spanish Super Cup which usually has four teams and is often played in the Middle East.

FootballNext season's Champions League season will begin earlier than usual
Sports Brief has also previously reported that Next season’s UEFA Champions League has been scheduled to kick off earlier than usual due to the FIFA World Cup holding in November and December.
Europe’s elite competition will witness significant changes in date as Spanish giants Real Madrid will hope they can retain the title which they won for the fourteenth time in their history.
FIFA made a decision to stage the World Cup late this year, which comes in the middle of European league football and due to this, domestic and continental competitions have been adjusted.
