Liverpool have completed the signing of striker Darwin Nunez from Benfica for an initial fee of £64m.
The fee could potentially rise to £85m if a number of milestones are fulfilled which would make the striker a record signing for the Merseyside club, surpassing £75m paid to sign centre-back Virgil van Dijk in 2018.
An official announcement was made by Liverpool on the evening of Tuesday, June 14.
"I'm really happy and delighted to be here at Liverpool. It's a massive club," Nunez told the Liverpool club website.
"It's a pleasure to be here in Liverpool and I'm very happy to be a part of this great club.”
The striker’s signing is now subject to clearance and work permit approval.
Nunez, a leading marksman
There is a valid reason behind Liverpool pursuing the Uruguay international with so much aggression.
He was the top scorer in the Primera Liga with 26 goals in 28 games, and managed to impressively bag six goals in 10 Champions League games.
Klopp’s take on Nunez
Speaking on his new signing, Jurgen Klopp exuded confidence that the striker would thrive at Anfield.
"That's why it's so exciting. His age, his desire, his hunger to be even better than he currently is and his belief in our project and what we are looking to do as a club," added the German.
"He thinks we suit him and we believe he is the right fit for us - so let's do it."
