Heartbreak in Italy As Nigerian Football Star Found Dead in His Car Days After Complaining of Leg Pains

Italian Serie A side Torino have mourned the death of their former striker Akeem Omolade who was found lifeless in his car as the tragic incident comes days after he complained of leg pains.

The Nigerian star passed away at the age of 39 as he was said to have featured for Torino and played in the Serie A between 2001 and 2003.

Daily Mail reports that Italian services discovered him lifeless in a Peugeot in the Sicilian capital Palermo which prompted mourning across Italian football.

It was gathered that Omolade also featured for 11 other clubs in Italy including Reggiana, Treviso and Novara before he retired.

Reports have it that no external injuries were spotted on him following an initial examination, but his family members disclosed that he had complained of pains in the leg.

Torino said in a statement:

“President Urbano Cairo and all of Torino Football Club sincerely share in the Omolade family's grief at the passing of our former player Akeem Omolade.
“The Nigerian represented Torino in Serie A between 2001-2003, making five appearances
“Signed from Treviso, he first played in our youth side and then for the first team, making his Serie A debut against Inter Milan on February 2, 2003.
“The entire Torino family sends its deepest sympathies to his loved ones, his parents and his many friends.”

Findings revealed that Omolade spoke out against racism after being targeted by a group of the club's 'ultras'.

Christopher Edoghogho dies on the pitch in Benin City

Meanwhile, a young man named Christopher Edoghogho has passed away after he reportedly slumped during a football match in Benin City.

Edoghogho, before his death, was a player for local team Angels Football Academy as it was gathered that he collapsed on the pitch barely two minutes into the kick-off of a game.

The late player’s teammates stormed the Edo State Specialist Hospital in Benin and blocked the entrance as they also trooped to the ever-busy Sapele Road to protest the attitude of the medical personnel.

Mahrez leads tributes for the late Bille Benhammouda

Sports Brief earlier reported that Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez led a tribute for Algerian midfielder, Bille Benhammouda, who died in a tragic road accident.

The 24-year-old is understood to have been involved in the accident shortly after featuring for the Algeria national football team.

Benhammouda was part of Algeria's squad which hammered DR Congo 3-0 in an international friendly.
