Former Ghana Captain Evokes Memories of 2006 World Cup After Throwing Back to Debut Game

Former Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah brought nostalgic memories to Ghanaians after sharing a post to celebrate Ghana's World Cup debut.

The four times African champions played their first World Cup game against Italy on June 12, 2006 in Hamburg.

His post on Twitter got massive reactions from fans on the social media app, with many recounting how they felt on that day.

Stephen Appiah led Ghana on the day as the Black Stars made their first ever appearance at the global showpiece.

Ghana lost 2-0 to Italy on the night in Hannover, with Andrea Pirlo and Vicenzo Ianquinta scoring for the Europeans.

The Black Stars defeated Czech Republic and the United States to make it out of Group E, before losing to then World Champions Brazil in the last 16.

Italy ended up winning the World Cup in 2006 after beating France in the final.

Former Ghana captain Stephen Appiah named after newly-built pitch

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Legendary Ghanaian footballer, Stephen Appiah will have a new astro-turf built by the government of Ghana for the people of Mamprobi named in honor of him.

The ex-Black Stars captain turned 41 on Friday, December 24, 2021.

In honour of his contributions to the country in football, the government has decided to name the newly constructed pitch after him.
