FootballDidier Deschamps Throws Chelsea’s Interest in Jules Kounde Into Doubt As Tuchel Looks To Strengthen Backline
- Jules Kounde is set to undergo a pelvic surgery that might limit his involvement in the preseason training as rumours about his future continue
- Chelsea is the leading contender to land the 23-year-old from Sevilla and bring him to Stamford Bridge
- Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen have left the club on free transfers leaving Tuchel in a desperate position to get new defenders
France national team head coach Didier Deschamps confirmed that Jules Kounde will have to undergo surgery. Kounde, who plies his trade with Sevilla, has attracted interest from top clubs among them Barcelona and Chelsea.
The surgery will surely give Thomas Tuchel some doubts over bringing the French international to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea are in dire need of defensive reinforcements after losing Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen on free transfers.
Kounde was part of the France team that lost to Croatia in the UEFA Nations League. He only lasted the first half before he was hooked off with a hamstring injury.
Football London now reports that Deschamps mentioned that the problem has been a recurrent one dating from months ago.
Sevilla has since confirmed that the 23-year-old will undergo the surgery in Bordeaux.
He will undergo surgery for a minor pelvis injury which he has had for most of the season
As was scheduled several weeks ago, Jules Koundé will undergo an operation on Tuesday in Bordeaux for a minor pelvis injury. In principle, if everything goes as expected, the French international will be available for the start of the 2022/23 season.
Tuchel is said to be a long-time admirer of the young defender. The surgery can sway his thoughts as managers tend to be wary of the impact that such operations can have on a player.
