- Orlando Pirates parted ways with one of their co-coaches, Fadlu Davids, but retained the services of Mandla Ncikazi
- Dan "Dance" Malesela will become a free agent when his contract with Marumo Gallants expires at the end of the month
- Benni McCarthy has been without a coaching gig since he was let go by AmaZulu FC but has been linked to Orlando Pirates
The wait for Orlando Pirates to announce their new manager continues.
The Buccaneers parted ways with Fadlu Davids last week and are yet to announce whether they will be bringing on anyone else to join Mandla Ncikazi.
A group of current players want Dan Malesela to be appointed at the club, The Citizen reported.
Malesela will become a free agent at the end of the month when his contract with Marumo Gallants comes to an end. Gallants opted not to renew Dan Dance’s contract, despite the success he achieved with the side.
As reported by the publication, the group of players wants Malesela to be brought on as part of the technical team alongside Mandla Ncikazi. They believe that Malesela can help lead the club back to former glory.
“The guys believe coach Malesela is good for the job and they believe that he is someone they really think can bring the spark back at the club,” a source told The Citizen.
“There is something that is lacking and most of the guys seem to think Malesela is one person who can fix that problem. Plus he knows the Pirates culture, he played at the club.”
Former stars have also weighed in on who should take over at the Soweto-based side.
Innocent Chikoya believes that Benni McCarthy should be brought in and Ncikazi should be retained in the technical team, Goal.com reported.
“You know Pirates is a very big team and you need somebody who has the guts to stand the heat, but right now if you look at it, that favours Benni McCarthy,” Chikoya said.

FootballMarumo Gallants surprisingly part ways with Dan Malesela despite continued success with Dan Dance as manager
The DStv Premiership season has seen many coaches lose their jobs, but no one saw Dan Malesela’s release coming.
Marumo Gallants produced the biggest shock of the pre-season as they announced that they would not be renewing Dan ‘Dance’ Malesela’s contract.
Malesela’s contract expires at the end of June. The club took to Twitter to announce the decision and thank Malesela for his services during his time at the club and to wish him well in the future.
Bucs legend Daine Klate sparks wildfire of rumours that Benni McCarthy will be the next Orlando Pirates coach
Daine Klate has added more weight to the rumours that Benni McCarthy could be the next Orlando Pirates.
This past season, Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids have been manning the helm at the Buccaneers in an interim capacity. This has not been a particularly successful stint, with Pirates failing to win a single trophy.
The Buccaneers also failed to qualify for any African competitions, which compromised their already shaky standing in terms of employment.
