Former Nigerian international Mikel Obi was at the famous Unilag Sports Complex for his Back2Base talent hunt programme which kicked off on Thursday, June 9.
The Nigerian ex-international and former Chelsea star, along with his partners, launched a three-day talent hunt programme in Lagos.
Premium Times reports that the project was launched in the player’s bid to give back to society in the area of discovering talents.
Mikel was spotted with a very talented young chap Khalid ‘magic leg’ as they passed the ball to each other.
And after the event, Khalid took to Instagram to celebrate the moment he met with his ‘idol’ who won the Champions League with the English club Chelsea in 2012. Khalid wrote:
“Thanks for the love, support, honour and cash that you gave to me yesterday at Unilag campus field. Thanks @mikel_john_obi."
And speaking on the project, Mikel said as per Sun News:
“It is an opportunity for us to give back to the community, first of all, we have to realise that there is so much talent in this country waiting to be discovered. So with the Back2Base project, we are hoping to help showcase this talent.
“The first edition is starting in Lagos but we hope we can take it around the country subsequently. It is going to be an exciting time for the children not just in football but also in basketball and tennis.”

Meanwhile, John Obi Mikel’s impact at Chelsea is still being celebrated years after departing the Stamford Bridge.
The 35-year-old has been recognized by the Blues as the youngest player to make 100 appearances for Chelsea in the English Premier League.
