  • Belgium were simply too good for Poland in the Nations League Group A4
  • Kevin De Bruyne was on the score sheet as Roberto Martinez’s side came from behind to record a 6-1 victory
  • Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring with his 76th international goal, but Belgium were rampant later on

Belgium bounced back from their Netherlands disappointment in style as they came from behind to thrash Poland 6-1 in the Nations League.

The Red Devils came into the game on Wednesday, June 8 at the back of a 4-1 humbling by the Netherlands, and they were clearly out to make a statement.

But Roberto Martinez’s side got off to a bad start as unsettled striker Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring with an expert finish in the 28th minute.

Belgium however levelled before the break, with Axel Witsel who struck from outside the box.

The second half was all Belgium, and goals from Kevin de Bruyne, Leander Dendoncker, debutant Lois Openda and a brace from the bench from Leandro Trossard were enough to ensure an emphatic victory.

One of the better performers on the night was Eden Hazard, who showed glimpses of his former self in the game despite a season rigged with injuries at Real Madrid.

Hazard managed to play for 66 minutes in the game, and was eventually taken off but this was after he was guilty of missing a fairly simple chance in the Poland goal.

The win brought Belgium above Netherlands in Group A4, although both teams are level on points.

Netherlands beat Wales in intense Nations League battle

In the other game played on Wednesday, the Netherlands recorded their second win in the ongoing Nations League encounter as they defeated Wales 2-1 in what was a tough game.

Having lost their first game against Poland, Wales players were determined to get to winning ways, but they were unable to get a good result against Netherlands.

Teun Koopmeiners scored the first goal for Holland in the 50th minute, but Rhys Norrington-Davies restored parity for Wales at the death.

And when Wales thought they had gotten a draw in the encounter, Wout Weghorst scored the winner for Netherlands.
