- Reports claim Liverpool have already made a quotation on the Benfica striker, who has proven himself in Europa
- United, despite losing a number of players including Edinson Cavani, are yet to make any new signings
Furious Manchester United fans have taken to social media to express discontent at the club’s inactivity in the transfer window.
On Wednesday, June 8, it was widely reported that Liverpool had overtaken the Red Devils in the pursuit of talented Benfica striker Darwin Nunez.
United have been keeping tabs on Nunez for months now, but despite huge interest in the Uruguayan, it appears Liverpool have the upper hand in his potential signature.
The young striker has been in impressive form for Benfica last season, netting 34 goals in 41 games, inevitably attracting interest from top clubs across Europe.
Liverpool’s official proposal for Darwin Núñez will be €80m plus add ons for €100m package, and the contract length is believed to be five years.
With such an audacious bid, United fans were furious on social media since their club have not made any considerable strides to acquire the striker.
Fan reaction
Taking to social media, fans called out new manager Erik Ten Hag and the board for allowing Liverpool to get the upper hand in Darwin’s transfer.
“Man United, Please Get Darwin Nunez! He can't go to Liverpool” One fan tweeted.
“What is wrong with Man United? This is not specifically about Darwin Nunez now going to Liverpool. It's watching our rivals quickly identify and secure targets that improves them. We just sit there and do nothing proactive, it's embarrassing.” Another added.
“How did Liverpool sign Nunez in 1 day while Man United are still waffling with his agent for 3 months,” wondered another.
