- Drogba was a pain for defenders in his prime, and one user on Twitter decided to make a video to celebrate the African football icon
- At Chelsea, he scored 164 goals and won four Premier League titles and the Champions League
Football fans were on Tuesday, June 7 taken down memory lane with a brilliant video of Ivory Coast and Chelsea legend Didier Drogba in his prime.
Drogba was a nightmare for defenders in his heyday, and one could easily make a case that Chelsea acquired him for a bargain when they bought him for £24m from Marseille.
Initially, Drogba looked like he would be just another African striker in the Premier League, but that was far from the case.
He took the Premier League by storm under Jose Mourinho at Chelsea, and he was a force to reckon with, sometimes winning games for the Blues single-handedly.
Unlike many forwards today who have a specialty on the pitch, Drogba had a mix of it all, and the video posted by @LDNFootbalI is full proof of it.
Whether it was his heading ability to turning up for his team in the big games to scoring from long range, there was very little Drogba could not do.
Fans were quick to point out their favorite Drogba moment, which was the unforgettable goal against Tottenham.
The towering striker received the ball and with Spurs defender William Gallas on his back, he expertly manages to spin around him to lash a powerful shot past the goalkeeper.
It is also worth noting that the goal was scored with his so-called ‘weaker’ left foot.
Fan reactions
The video has since gone viral on Twitter and fans have erupted with varying reactions to Drogba’s finesse in his prime.
“As I usually say, I’m not taking any centre forward over him in any era” One commented.

Football“He actually made scoring so easy” another added.
“He was amazing to watch. King of football,” said another.
“I’m not just a Spurs fan, I’m a football fan. This man was special,” went another.
Osimhen on his childhood hero
It appears Drogba’s legacy still lives on, even in modern football stars.
Recently, Napoli striker Victor Osimhen lavished praise on Drogba, saying the Ivory Coast star was one of his idols growing up.
The lanky forward has been on the radar of top European clubs like Arsenal and Bayern Munich, who are actively looking for strikers in the upcoming transfer window.
Osimhen also revealed that his favourite goal was against Chelsea in a Champions League match for Lille in 2019
