The 36-year-old holds the record for most goals scored for the Three Lions and the Red Devils as he has 53 goals in 120 international appearances for England and 253 goals for Manchester United.

Rooney defeated other British greats, including Ex-Manchester United icon, George Best, Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish and Wales captain Gareth Bale to the accolade in a poll on social media conducted by Sports Bible.

Rooney emerged with 39.9 percent of all votes cast, with George Best coming 2nd behind the Derby County manager, while Gareth Bale and Kenny Daglish finished 3rd and 4th respectively.

Wayne Rooney finished his career with five Premier League titles, three League Cups, the FA Cup, the UEFA Champions League, and the Europa League titles.
