Kenyan international Aboud Omar has had his contract at Greek club Athlitiki Enosi Larissa terminated by mutual consent. Athlitiki are currently fighting to remain afloat and have made the decision to let go of a couple of players.
Omar joined the second division side in August last year from another Greek club Ionikos Nikeas. He penned a two-year contract at the club.
A statement from the club's website as quoted by Mozzart Sports said:
AEL for financial reasons concerning its survival today terminated by mutual consent the cooperation contract with the international Kenyan football player Omar Abud.
We wish Omar Abud every happiness in his football and family life because he is a wonderful player that we all loved and we expect him to be a member of our family again soon.
Athlitiki are understood to be struggling financially and the owner has put the club up for sale. Omar was part of the Harambee Stars squad that qualified and took part in the first Africa Cup of Nations tournament in 19 years in the 2018 edition that was held in Egypt.
The side which was then coached by Sebastien Migne was eliminated in the group stages after losing to eventual finalists and beating their neighbour Uganda.
Bestsafe withdraws sponsorship for Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards
Sports Brief had earlier reported that Kenya's biggest clubs Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards are set to lose their main sponsor. Betsafe is understood to have terminated its contract with the two clubs with immediate effect.
