A spot in the 2022 World Cup will be at stake as Wales prepares to battle Ukraine in their play-off final on Sunday, June 5, at the Cardiff City Stadium.

West Ham United's Andriy Yarmolenko, Roman Yaremchuk, and Artem Dovbyk were all on target as Ukraine took a huge step toward qualifying for the global football extravaganza.

On their part, Wales got the better of Austria in their own qualifier to make it this far in their qualification journey.

Match Preview

The Dragons will be heading into the clash off a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Poland in the UEFA Nations League.

However, they will be having history on their minds as they aim to qualify for their first World Cup since 1958.

While their meeting with Ukraine is expected to be emotionally charged considering the situation in Ukraine, Wales will have no choice but to put their compassion on hold to achieve their long-held dream of playing on the global stage.

Gareth Bale has already made it clear the match has so much significance to the playing unit and the country.

"It's a massive game. There's no hiding it," said Wales captain Gareth Bale," BBC quoted him saying.

Team News

Wales boss Rob Page will welcome the returns of Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey, Ben Davies and Joe Allen during the Ukraine clash.

The four were rested during the continental outing against Poland and should be fresh enough for the play-off final.

Goalkeepers Wayne Hennessey and Danny Ward both played 45 minutes apiece on Wednesday night, but the former is in line to take control between the sticks.

Connor Roberts, Harry Wilson and Neco Williams are also fit and could start at Cardiff City.

In the Ukraine camp, head coach Petrakov has no fresh injury concerns and is likely to retain the XI that beat Scotland.

Possible starting XI

Wales:

Hennessey; Rodon, Ampadu, Davies; Roberts, Aaron Ramsey, Allen, Neco Williams; Wilson, Gareth Bale, Daniel James

Ukraine:

Hungary upsets England in Nations League

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Hungary stunned England in the opening match of the UEFA Nations League A Group 3 encounter at the Puskas Stadium in Budapest.

Dominik Szoboszlai's 66th-minute penalty was the difference between what was a cagey affair.

The result was a blow for the English, as their campaign will get harder in a group also involving Germany and Italy.
