Son Heung-min was awarded the Cheongnyong Medal, his country’s highest sporting honour, by South Korea’s president, Yoon Seok-youl.
Son received the individual accolade on the back of becoming the first Asian player to win the Premier League Golden Boot winner with 23 goals.
In a photo posted on Twitter, sighted by Sports Brief, Son, dressed in a dark suit, walked into the packed stadium as the crowd cheered with the president, Yoon Seok-youl presented the award much to the joy of the crowd.
The crowd cheered with a banner reading: "We are living in the era of world-class Son Heung-min."
He received the prize before South Korea's friendly against five-time world champions Brazil at the Seoul World Cup Stadium - which ended in a landslide victory for the South Americans.
The Tottenham Hotspur star, who is currently on international assignment with South Korea, enjoyed a stellar campaign, finishing the just-concluded season as the Premier League Golden Boot winner alongside Liverpool's Mohamed Salah.

Son Heung-min was treated to a rapturous welcome back in his native South Korea.
Son was returning home for the very first time since winning the English Premier League Golden Boot over the weekend.
The Tottenham Hotspur forward bagged 23 goals to finish top of the scoring charts in England. He tied with Liverpool's Mohamed Salah but of more importance, none of his goals were from the penalty spot. g

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Neymar Jr and Son-Heung Min met after the international friendly between Brazil and South Korea in Seoul on Thursday.
Brazil thumped the Asian giants 5-1 at the Seoul World Cup stadium, but Neymar meeting Son-Heung Min stole the show as the two stars paid tribute to each other.
In a photo posted on social media, the duo stood by each other to take a lovely picture to celebrate the momentous occasion.
