Super Eagles now to face Sao Tome and Principe in AFCON 2023 qualifiers As CAF drops Mauritius

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Nigeria will have new opponents in Group A of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers following the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) to reinstate Sao Tome and Principe.

The tiny island nation had been disqualified by a CAF disciplinary committee following a complaint lodged by Mauritius that they fielded an ineligible player in the playoffs.

The African football body has now upheld Sao Tome and Principe’s appeal against the complaint by Mauritius which had seen the island nation thrown out initially.

Falcons were disqualified after its captain, Luis Leal failed to provide a Covid-19 test result before their preliminary playoff against Mauritius in March 2022.

Sao Tome and Principe will now host the Super Eagles at their adopted home ground in Rabat, Morocco on June 13, four days after Nigeria would begin its campaign in Abuja against Sierra Leone at the Moshood Abuja Stadium.
