  • The nominees for this year's PFA Player of the year award have been announced, with Mo Salah and Sadio Mane making the cut
  • The list is dominated by Liverpool players, with three of them among the six emerging from the Merseyside
  • Cristiano Ronaldo, who has won the accolade on two occasions has also been shortlisted after a fine run of form with Man United

Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah and Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo are among six Premier League stars shortlisted for the prestigious PFA Player of the Year award.

The duo had a successful season during the year under review, with Salah carting home the Golden Boot award after emerging EPL's top scorer.

On his part, Ronaldo was the shining light at Old Trafford in what was a frustrating campaign for the Red Devils.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner scored a total of 18 goals in the English top-flight during the 2021/22 season.

Should he win the award this year, Manutd.com reports Ronaldo will become the first-ever three-time recipient of the accolade having won it twice during his first stint with the Red Devils.

Who else has been nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award?

The list of nominees for the gong is dominated by Liverpool players, with three of the six currently turning out for the Champions League runners up.

Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk are the other two players joining Salah on the podium after a successful campaign that saw them win the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup titles.

However, the trio will be wary of competition from Kevin de Bruyne and Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane.

Whereas Kane did not win any trophy with the North Londoners, he played a vital role in helping them seal a return to the Champions League with a top-four finish.

De Bruyne, meanwhile, inspired Manchester City to their eighth Premier League title as they pipped Liverpool to the trophy by a single point.

The Professional Footballers' Association Men's Players' Player of the Year is an annual award given to the player who is adjudged to have been the best of the year in the Premier League.

Salah, Son share Golden Boot award

Earlier, Sports Brief reported the race for the Golden Boot award proved to be a thrilling affair as well as Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-Min and Liverpool’s Mohammed Salah tied for first place.

Both strikers finished on 23 goals this season as Son scored twice for Spurs against Norwich and Salah scored once against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Man United's Cristiano Ronaldo took third place with 18 goals while Harry Kane finished fourth with 17 goals.
