Nigeria will have new opponents in Group A of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers following the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) to reinstate Sao Tome and Principe.

The tiny island nation had been disqualified by a CAF disciplinary committee following a complaint lodged by Mauritius that they fielded an ineligible player in the playoffs.

According to a report via Brila, the African football body has now upheld Sao Tome and Principe’s appeal against the complaint by Mauritius which had seen the island nation thrown out initially.

The Falcons were disqualified after its captain, Luis Leal failed to provide a Covid-19 test result before their preliminary playoff against Mauritius in March 2022.

Sao Tome and Principe will now host the Super Eagles at their adopted home ground in Rabat, Morocco on June 13, four days after Nigeria would begin its campaign in Abuja against Sierra Leone at the Moshood Abuja Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles camp is bubbling with excitement as Watford striker, Emmanuel Dennis has joined the team in the USA Premium Times reports.

After missing the team's 2-1 setback in Dallas over the weekend, Dennis might lead the Super Eagles' attack against Ecuador on Thursday, June 2.

The Super Eagles are preparing for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers next week against Sierra Leone and Sao Tome and Principe on June 9 and June 13 respectively.

Aribo reveals readiness ahead of 2023 AFCON qualifiers

Earlier, Sports Brief reported the Super Eagles is set to begin its quest for a fourth African Cup of Nations trophy when the 2023 qualifiers commence later in June.

Joe Aribo is already psyched up for the upcoming crucial 2023 AFCON qualifiers against Sierra Leone, and Mauritius under new coach Jose Poseiro.

Aribo says he is looking forward to the games and confirmed the Super Eagles’ readiness for the AFCON qualifiers.
