Juventus head coach Massimiliano Allegri has lashed out at Paulo Dybala, claiming that the star thought he was the ‘new Messi.’
Dybala is now a free agent after exiting Juventus at the end of the season and his former immediate boss has asked him to go back to being himself.
The Argentine star leaves Juventus after seven years in Turin. He was one of the lead attackers in Juve’s side that saw them win the Serie A titles a couple of times and reached the Champions League final twice.
On an individual level, Dybala scored over 100 goals for Juventus in 293 appearances. He served as the assistant captain to Giorgio Chiellini during his last years at the club.
According to DAZN, as quoted by Goal, Allegri believes that Dybala is talented but has to tone down.
Dybala has to go back to being himself. There was a moment when he got carried away by being the new Messi. You cannot copy or emulate someone else. Paulo has a lot to give to football, he has extraordinary technical qualities, but he has to back to who he is.
Top European clubs are expected to try and persuade the 28-year-old once the transfer window officially opens. Inter Milan and Manchester United are among the leading contenders for the forward who can play as a striker or on the wings.
