FootballSports Disputes Tribunal Suspends National Super League and Division One League
- Matches in the National Super League and Football Kenya Federation Division One have been suspended for seven days
- Eight clubs had lodged a complaint against the FKF Transition committee wanting the Standing Committees which are in charge of running the leagues, allowed to function independently
- Fortune Sacco and APS Bomet are in prime position to qualify for the Kenya Premier League next season with Coast Stima, Dandora Love and Mwatate United in danger of dropping down
The Sports Disputes Tribunal(SDT) on Friday suspended the National Super League(NSL) and Division One League matches for seven days.
Seven NSL clubs and one division one club had gone to court challenging the legitimacy of the Football Kenya Federation Transition Committee to run the leagues.
The transition committee was recently appointed by Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed to oversee football issues in the country for five weeks. The committee is led by retired judge Aaron Ringera.
The petitioners want the Football Kenya Federation Standing Committees to be allowed to discharge their mandate independently.
Mozzart Sports reports that the tribunal had summoned the Transition Committee to appear before them but their summons were snubbed twice. The seven clubs include Dandora Love, Migori Youth, Gusii FC, Kisumu All Stars, Mwatate United and Coastal Heroes. Kamungei United of Division One is also part of the case.
The case will now be mentioned on May 31st.
The suspension now cancels the matches slated for this weekend and the mid-next week. Fortune Sacco leads the standings after 26 matches with 50 points. They are tied with APS Bomet who are second with an inferior goal difference. Muhoroni Youth occupy third place as the race to qualify for top-flight football continues.
