Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp donned a pair of Cristiano Ronaldo-branded underwear before the Reds previous meeting with Real Madrid in the 2018 UEFA Champions League final.
The 13-time and six-time champions of Europe are set to lock horns in the Champions League final again on Saturday night in Paris. Four years ago, Jurgen Klopp tried to motivate his side unusually by doing this stunt.
According to the Daily Star, this backfired, with Los Blancos running out 3-1 winners thanks to a Gareth Bale brace - including a memorable bicycle kick - and a Karim Benzema goal, while Sadio Mane pulled one back for the Reds. Ronaldo was not on the scoresheet, but was possibly denied an opportunity while through on goals by a pitch invader.
Former Reds player and current Paris St. Germain midfielder Gini Wijnaldum told The Athletic:
“We saw he was wearing the boxer shorts of Cristiano Ronaldo. That really broke the ice. Usually in those situations, everyone is serious and concentrated. But he was relaxed and made this joke.
"He’s done hundreds of jokes likes that. If you see that your manager is really confident and relaxed, it will have an effect on players. He is a father figure in those things for the players. With his jokes and his body language, he takes the pressure off players.”
