AS Roma forward Tammy Abraham has admitted that he turned down Nigeria in order to pursue an international career with England.
The English-born of Nigerian descent was vital for Jose Mourinho's side throughout the Europa Conference League, becoming the club's top scorer with nine goals.
He has gone ahead to establish himself as the livewire for the Giallorossi, becoming the highest-scoring Englishman across Europe’s big leagues this season.
He has recently earned a another call-up to the England squad under Gareth Southgate and has previously admitted that he rejected overtures from his parents' country of birth in hope of representing the Three Lions at senior level.
In an interview with The Express, quoted by Sports Mole, Abraham said.
"[Nigeria] did try to roll out the red carpet and it was flattering but I was pretty set on England," he said.
"I see myself as being a long-term England player. That is where my main focus is and I am 100 per cent focused on trying to get into that team."
Abraham has been included in England’s latest 27-man squad ahead of Nations League fixtures against Hungary, Germany and Italy, as per Sky Sports.
The former Chelsea striker now appears to be Southgate’s preferred cover for captain Harry Kane.
Abraham swapped the Stamford Bridge club for Roma last summer to spearhead Mourinho's new project in the Italian capital.
He has signed off for the season with 27 goals in all competitions, with nine of them in Europe.
