Incoming Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez scored a record-breaking six goals in one game for his current side River Plate.
Julian Alvarez and River Plate have a deal in place that will see the striker join the Premier League champions at the end of this campaign. Manchester City are understood to have parted with close to 14 million euros to acquire the sensation.
And even before he joins up with the City squad, Alvarez has got Pep Guardiola and City fans salivating at his potential. The Argentinian scored six goals as River Plate swept aside a hapless Allianza Lima 8-1 in the Copa Libertadores.
Goal reports that this is the first time a River Plate player has scored six goals in one game. It is also the second time in the Copa Libertadores history that a player has scored such a number of goals in one outing. The other player was Carlos Sanchez, who did so for Club Blooming in 1985.
With City having already acquired Erling Haaland, the arrival of Alvarez will surely form one of the most devastating striking combinations in history.
Talks were rife that Manchester City might be tempted to loan the 22-year-old next season. But according to a report by The Sun, City’s Chief Executive Ferran Soriano has insisted that Alvarez will remain under Guardiola’s watch.
We have many offers from clubs to loan Julian Alvarez – but he is not going to leave. He will do pre-season with us and I think he will stay.

The £51m highly-rated striker is expected to undergo the final formalities before officially being unveiled as a Manchester City player.
His arrival in Manchester comes only two weeks after City excited fans with the announcement that the Norwegian would be joining them from Borussia Dortmund.
