Mhango had just been given blessings by Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza to depart the club, as per Soccer Laduma yesterday. It was tough going for him at Pirates this past season, with the arrival of co-coaches Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids resulting in him riding the bench for most of the campaign.
Ironically, Mhango was one of the breakout players at the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon, where he scored one of the goals of the tournament for Malawi as The Flames reached the Last 16 for the very first time.
