Chelsea fans have over the years had to contend with watching some of their former players thrive for other clubs. These players were deemed surplus to requirements and were shipped out to various clubs.
Perhaps the most disheartening one is the one of Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah. The duo has lit up the Premier League with exquisite performances over the years despite Chelsea letting go of them.
Daily Star has compiled a list of the other players who shone after leaving Chelsea
1. Fikayo Tomori
The young English defender left Chelsea initially on loan. AC Milan then chose to make the deal permanent until 2025. Tomori was the cornerstone of Rossoneri’s defence that recently won their first Serie A title in 11 years.
2. Tariq Lamptey
The full-back left Chelsea for Brighton and Hove Albion in search of game time. Save for constant injuries, Lamptey has been a threat for Graham Potter’s men down the flanks.
Chelsea accepted a 4 million euros bid from Brighton for the player with Ghanaian roots.
3. Tammy Abraham
The other transfer that will haunt Chelsea fans is the sale of Tammy Abraham to AS Roma. Abraham has gone ahead to establish himself as a regular in Jose Mourinho’s side. He was the highest-scoring Englishman across Europe’s big leagues this season.
Chelsea fans will particularly be hurt given that his replacement, Ronelu Lukaku, has failed to rise to his expected standards.
Ex Chelsea striker Diego Costa is set for a dramatic return to England with Championship side Birmingham City
Football4. Marc Guehi
The center-back is now putting in consistent performances for Crystal Palace after penning a five-year deal. Guehi was a regular in Chelsea’s youth teams before a loan spell at Swansea City.
His performances caught the eye of England’s manager Gareth Southgate who has since rewarded him with a call-up.
5. Lassana Diarra
The French defensive midfielder was signed from Le Havre but failed to cement his position at Stamford Bridge. He had loan spells at Arsenal and Portsmouth before Chelsea eventually decided to sell him to Real Madrid.
He became a key player for the Los Blancos under Jose Mourinho.
