- The 35-year old helped Atletico to the league title last year, but was told he was not part of the club’s plans next season
- He however maintains that he wants to remain in Europe, despite offers from Mexico, Argentina and Brazil
Luis Suarez has painfully revealed that he learnt of his future at Atletico Madrid the day before his final game in another sad ending to the Uruguayan’s stint with another Spanish club.
Suarez was a visibly emotional figure after he was subbed in Atletico Madrid’s final home game and he is now set to become a free agent in the summer.
The 35-year old recently did an interview with El Larguero, where he shed more light on what transpired in the build-up to finding out about his future.
According to Suarez, he would have loved to stay with the Los Colchoneros but he was ultimately shown the door.
“Rafa Alique (Atletico director of communications) told me the day before my farewell, that they were going to give me a farewell,” Suarez said as quoted on Daily Mail.
“I did not know anything. I am 35 years old and I was also thinking about my future.”
'We had a meeting with the club in December, we agreed to talk in February, and Alique told me that they were going to give me a farewell and I said, "well, at least someone from the club tells me something". He too was supposedly surprised.'
Suarez went on to reveal that he never even had a conversation with Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone on his future.
What about the future?
Asked about his future, Suarez was blunt as he admitted he did not know what direction his career would take.

FootballHe however insists he still wants to play in Europe, despite several offers from South America.
“I swear I don't (know). Trust me, I've not decided where I'm gonna play next season. I've received are many options, many proposals... I am lucky to make the decision, I listen to everyone, but when the time comes we will make the decision. “ he added.
Quite sadly, it was the same situation for Suarez when he left Barcelona as he left the Catalan giants quite unceremoniously despite his contributions to the club’s success for six years.
Possible destinations for Suarez
Despite being 35, there are still a number of clubs in Europe who might be interested in his services next season.
The Uruguay international harbours plans to represent his country at the World Cup in Qatar in November, and staying in Europe provides him his best chance to prove that he still has the capacity to perform at top level.
