Sundowns already boast a hug squad and competition for places is rife. As a result, the futures of the midfield duo of Sibusiso Vilakazi and George Maluleka remain uncertain.

Soccer Laduma reported that Maluleka’s two-year contract with the champions is coming to an end and Sundowns only have seven days left to decide whether they want to extend his contract.

His representative Sean Roberts explained that Maluleka’s contract expires at the end of June but that Sundowns have until May 31 to indicate whether they want to exercise the option to extend it by another year.

Sibusiso Vilakazi is another player whose future remains uncertain with Masandawana. Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi recently spoke about Vilakazi’s situation, SABC Sport reported.

“We know his quality, we know what he can give us. Unfortunately, when he gets injured and he finds it difficult to come back into the team, it’s not in our control – it’s very difficult for everyone to break into the team,” Mngqithi said.

He added that no decision has been made yet on the player’s future and that he would not dwell on it too much.

Vilakazi is contracted to Sundowns until 2024.

Mamelodi Sundowns celebrate 12th Premier Soccer League title in style as Masandawana lifts league trophy

Mamelodi Sundowns were officially crowned as the 2021/22 DStv Premiership champions today. Masandawana won the league title in April after a goalless draw with Cape Town City but had to wait till the last league game to get their hands on the trophy.

Sundowns’ last game came against Royal AM today and the Brazilians ended their season in style with a 3-2 win over MaMkhize’s side in a thrilling fixture. Gaston Sirino, Thabiso Kutumela and Peter Shalulile all got onto the scoresheet as Sundowns held on for a win, Sports24 reported.

Following the victory, the team finally got to the moment they’d been waiting for, for almost a month. Sundowns players and the technical team got to lift the DStv Premiership title in front of their fans, their fifth league title in a row.
