Moroccan Goalie Yassine Bounou Beats Madrid’s Courtois to Top Award in Spain

• Yassine Bounou staved of competition from Thibaut Courtois to win the Zamora Trophy award in Spain

Morocco and Sevilla shot-stopper Yassine Bounou scooped home the Zamora Trophy following the completion of the 2021-22 La Liga season.

Bounou edged La Liga winner and Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to the individual accolade on the back of his impressive displays in between the sticks for Sevilla in the just-ended campaign.

His latest feat makes him the second African to have won the top goalkeeping diadem in Spain after legendary Cameroon custodian Jacques Celestin Songo'o, who won the award in the 1996-1997 season with Deportivo de La Coruña.
