Egypt and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah was left disappointed after he was informed by a fan that Manchester City had already gone ahead by the time he had scored.

Liverpool and Man City served football fans across the globe with an epic photo finish to the end of the Premier League season.

In a post on Twitter, spotted by Sports Brief, Salah, who was in a jubilant mood after putting Liverpool ahead in their game against Wolves, had to cut short his joy after he was told rivals Man City had gone ahead against Aston Villa.

Ahead of the final day of fixtures, City led by a lone point with Liverpool breathing down their necks in second position.

Despite the hot chase given by the Reds, the Sky Blues held their nerves to stage a dramatic comeback against Aston Villa to clinch the Premier League.

While City had their hearts in their mouths with less than 20 minutes left on the clock, elsewhere at Anfield, a stubborn Wolves side were holding quadruple-chasing Liverpool to a 1-1 scoreline.

But in the ensuing minutes, Salah scored to put the Reds ahead however, his wild celebrations were short-lived when he was hit with the news that City had staged a breathtaking fightback to take the lead within a space of six minutes.

The news dealt Salah and Liverpool an emotional blow in their chase for the unprecedented quadruple, which faded away at the end of 90 minutes of action.

Despite missing out on the Premier League title, Salah managed to secure an individual accolade, sharing the top scorer's award with Tottenham Hotspurs' forward Son Heung-min.

Man City crowned winners of the 2021-22 Premier League season

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Manchester City have been crowned the 2021/22 Premier League champions following their 3-2 thrilling win on the final day of the season.

City had to wait until the final day of the season to be confirmed champions after they were held to a 2-2 draw in their last outing at the London Stadium.

The draw against the Hammers meant the Citizens needed to secure a win in their last fixture of the campaign to retain the prestigious trophy.
