Manchester City have been crowned the 2021/22 Premier League champions following their 3-2 thrilling win on the final day of the season.

City had to wait until the final day of the season to be confirmed champions after they were held to a 2-2 draw in their last outing at the London Stadium.

The draw against the Hammers meant the Citizens needed to secure a win in their last fixture of the campaign to retain the prestigious trophy.

Man City survive Aston Villa scare

The reigning English champions had to survive an Aston Villa scare earlier in their Sunday, May 22, meeting and had to come from two goals down to secure a 3-2 epic win.

Aston Villa's Matty Cash broke the deadlock in the 37th minute of the match before ex-Liverpool ace Philippe Coutinho doubled the advantage in the 69th minute.

City were in danger of losing out the title to Liverpool before they scored three quick-fire goals to turn around their fortunes.

Ilkay Gundogan kicked off the turnaround in the 76th minute before Rodri restored parity two minutes later.

Gundogan went on to hand the hosts the lead with just nine minutes left on the clock and managed to hold firm to the lead to claim maximum points.

The victory was enough to earn Man City their eighth Premier League title and Guardiola's fourth since he joined the Citizens in 2016.

Man United secure Europa League spot

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Man United have booked a place in the Europa League next season despite their 1-0 defeat against Crystal Palace in their final match of the season.

West Ham United's defeat at Brighton confirmed a sixth-place finish for the Red Devils on the standings.

United will be joining Arsenal as the Premier League's representatives for the second-tier European football tournament.
