And speaking after the match, Courtois, who dumped the west London club to join Real Madrid in 2018 said he will be backing his former club as they hunt for continental glory.

The Belgian, however, admitted he was disappointed to see his current club crash out of the tournament in the last four. Courtois said after the match:

"I obviously wanted to win tonight but now we didn’t I will be supporting them in the final.
"I have plenty of friends and former teammates here so I only wish them the best for the final and I will be rooting for them."

On his part, Real boss Zinedine Zidane admitted Chelsea were clearly the better side having watched his own players dominated at Stamford Bridge.

However, the Frenchman was quick to praise his players, saying he was proud of them despite the heartbreaking elimination.

Chelsea will now face off against Man City in an all-English final to be played in Istanbul on Saturday, May 29. City will be looking to win the title under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola for the first time in their history.

Legit.ng earlier reported that N'golo Kante was named the man of the match for both Champions League semifinal games between Chelsea and Real Madrid.

The Frenchman helped the Blues advance to the final of the continental championship on 3-1 aggregate following their 2-0 triumph at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, May 5.

Goals from Timo Werner and Mason Mount ensured Thomas Tuchel's men maintain their impressive performances having started the season under Frank Lampard on a poor note.
