- Thomas Tuchel’s side has has a decent campaign, although they lost two domestic cup finals
Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has boldly declared Chelsea as the best team he has faced this season.
According to Rodgers, who at some point managed Chelsea as well, the Blues’ season was thrown off track with the high number of injuries to stars in the team.
The Leicester boss was speaking ahead of Chelsea’s rearranged fixture against Leicester City set for Thursday, May 19, saying no team has given him as much problems as Chelsea this season.
"When we played them early on in the season, they were at the top of their game. I thought they were outstanding.” Rodgers said as quoted by The Sun.
"Not long after that moment, they lost some players. I've said it before, even with squads like Chelsea's, you need your top players available.
"Over the course of the time, they have had players out, key players who make the systems function to the highest level.
"Then obviously, there's the distractions behind the scenes, and of course, that's a challenge."
The last time Leicester played Chelsea, the Foxes were outdone 3-0 at the King Power Stadium in November 2021.
Chelsea’s injury woes
True to Rodgers’ sentiments, the Blues have been hampered by several injury concerns throughout the season.
At some point, Chelsea were well in the title race alongside Manchester City and Liverpool, but eventually fell off after a dip in form coming into 2022.
Notably, Thomas Tuchel’s side has spent large chunks of the season without the services of Ben Chilwell and N’golo Kante.
Other players who have been in and out of the treatment room include Timo Werner, Callum-Hudson Odoi, Romelu Lukaku, Matteo Kovacic and Christian Pulisic.

FootballDespite the woes, the Blues have been competitive, especially domestically, but fell short in two cup finals - the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, which they both lost to Liverpool.
There was also the challenge of the sanctions imposed on Russian billionaire Roman Abramovic, which prompted him to put the club up for sale.
Regardless, Rodgers expects Chelsea to bounce back from next season.
"What I do know is they've got an outstanding manager who has done a fantastic job since he's been there.” Said the gaffer.
Kante drops hint on future
Meanwhile, France star N’golo Kante has dropped a massive hint on where he will play next season.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Kante hinted that he intends to stay at Stamford Bridge for at least another season.
The France international has continually been linked with a potential exit, with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain believed to be keen on his services.
