- Suarez has decided he will leave Atletico Madrid at the end of the season, putting a number of clubs on high alert
- The Uruguay international is still a hot prospect in world football despite being 35 years
- He is almost certainly going to remain in Europe next season, and there are several possibilities for the striker
Luis Suarez is set to depart Atletico Madrid, and despite his advanced age of 35, the striker is still a hot prospect for a number of clubs.
Recently, Suarez bid an emotional goodbye to Atletico Madrid after their final home game against Sevilla, but this is not the last fans will see of the striker, at least not in Europe.
With Suarez up for grabs, a number of European giants are poised to take him up, as he is still very fit and potent in front of goal.
The Uruguay international harbours plans to represent his country at the World Cup in Qatar in November, and staying in Europe provides him his best chance to prove that he still has the capacity to perform at top level.
In January, the door was open for Suarez to move back to South America, but he turned it down, instead deciding to finish the season with Atletico Madrid.
Sports Brief now takes a look at the clubs in Europe Suarez could join ahead of the new season:
1. Barcelona
This is highly unlikely, although Luis Suarez is very much loved at his former club Barcelona.
Barca are reportedly keen on signing Robert Lewandowski but could look at Suarez as an alternative, especially with their financial struggles.
2. Ajax
Suarez’s first European stint was with Ajax, where he proved his worth as a potential world-class striker before securing a move to Liverpool in 2011.
With 111 goals as an Ajax player, and the Dutch club’s reputation of bringing back former players, a Luis Suarez return is not far from the cards.
3. Aston Villa
The rumor mill has been very aggressive in linking Suarez with a move back to the Premier League, and Aston Villa has been tipped to be his most likely destination.
Revealed! The top 10 most skilled footballers in the world right now
FootballAston Villa manager Steven Gerrard knows Suarez’s exploits all too well, having played with the striker at Liverpool and coming on the verge of winning the title.
Gerrard has already signed a former teammate – Phillipe Coutinho - on a permanent deal and latest reports suggest the Villa boss is keen on bolstering his attacking options.
4. Inter Milan
Inter boss Simeone Inzaghi is also keen on adding firepower to his squad, especially with Lautaro Martinez being heavily courted by a number of clubs.
Suarez could provide a much cheaper option for the Nerazzuri, who have a reputation of getting the best out of players who are past their prime.
5. Sevilla
Alternatively, Suarez could choose to remain in Spain, and join La Liga giants Sevilla.
Sevilla’s go-to guy for goals Youssef En-Nesyri has struggled with injuries this season, and the Spanish giants could certainly use an experienced man in their squad next season.
Sevilla securing Champions League football also suggests that Suarez could be a good fit at the club.
