Manchester City have expressed official interest in signing Brighton and Hove Albion’s star Marc Cucurella. Pep Guardiola wants to strengthen his left-back position and he sees the young defender as a perfect fit.
Cucurella has taken the Premier League with aplomb. He joined the Seagulls this season and has since become an integral member of Graham Potter’s side. Cucurella was recently voted as Brighton’s best player of the season.
Guardiola is recouping as he seeks to make another attempt to win the Champions League. The English champions have come agonizingly close in the last two years to lifting their maiden title.
Erling Haaland is the first signing for Manchester City. The in-demand striker will join the club on July 1st after City activated his Borussia Dortmund’s clause.
Guardiola wants to strengthen his left-back options
Next up on Guardiola’s priority list will be the signing of a left-back. First-choice Benjamin Mendy is still suspended for off-field related issues. Joao Cancelo has had to step in for large parts of the season. The other option, Oleksandr Zichenko is sparingly used by Guardiola.
According to a report by the Daily Mail, no fullback has won possession more times in the Premier League than Cucurella’s 241. He has been capped once by Spain and has played 34 times in the Premier League this season.
The 23-year-old is a product of the Barcelona academy but was later on sold to Getafe. Brighton paid a fee of roughly 16 million euros for his services. Sports Mole reports that Cucurella is under contract at the Amex Stadium until 2026. There is an understanding that City will have to double that fee to convince Brighton to let go of their rising star.

FootballCucurella hilariously asks Potter to bench him next season
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Brighton and Hove Albion star Marc Cucurella recently left fans in stitches after begging his coach to leave him on the bench next season so he can avoid making public speeches in English.
Cucurella was named the Men's Players' Player of the Season as well as the Supporters' Player of the Season in Brighton’s recent gala occasion, thanks to his heroics for the Seagulls this campaign.
His speech had a delightful moment as he struggled to make out some English words, to the laughter of the audience in attendance.
