UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin has applauded Real Madrid talisman Karim Benzema and has described him as one of the most underrated footballers in the history of the sport.
Benzema has been in inspired form throughout this campaign leading Real Madrid's charge for the double - La Liga and UEFA Champions League.
The Frenchman has scored a jaw-dropping 44 goals in 44 matches this season and is the bookmakers' favourite to scoop home the 2022 Ballon d'Or award.
Ceferin, who was assessing the Champions League finals between Real Madrid and Liverpool, believes Karim Benzema's stupendous output this season might play in favour of the White Angels.
“They have the miraculous Karim Benzema, whom I have said many times is one of the most underrated players in the history of football. And in Luka Modric they have someone who gets better as they get older." Ceferin told the portal 24ur.com as quoted by Football Espana.
Benzema was adjudged as the best French player abroad by the UNFP (the French Professional Footballers' Union).
The 34-year-old, who has enjoyed an excellent season, beat competition from countrymen Ousmane Dembele (Barcelona), Theo Hernandez (AC Milan), N'Golo Kanté (Chelsea) and Mike Maignan (Milan) to clinch the individual accolade.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that soon-to-be Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger has heaped praise on Karim Benzema, who has had a stellar campaign this season.
Rudiger, who is on his way out of Chelsea at the end of the season, took time to eulogize Benzema for carrying Real Madrid since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Benzema, who is the bookmakers' favourite to win the Ballon d'Or, has bagged an eyewatering 44 goals while pushing Madrid to La Liga success and the finals of the UEFA Champions League.
