Kaizer Chiefs’ legal battles with the Premier Soccer League (PSL) have finally come to an end.
The Amakhosi appeared before the PSL’s Disciplinary Committee today in relation to the two fixtures they failed to honour last year.
The Soweto giants did not play against Cape Town City and Golden Arrows in December last year after a Covid-19 outbreak at the club. They were charged by the Premier Soccer League’s Disciplinary Committee but the resulting legal battle dragged on for much of the season.
The legal battle included Chiefs taking the matter to a SAFA for an arbitration case and the PSL appealing that arbitration ruling in the High Court, Sport24 confirmed.
Chiefs even played the two fixtures this year but lost both 2-1.
The case finally reached a climax today when the club appeared before the Disciplinary Committee where they pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them.
As reported by iDiskiTimes, PSL Prosecutor Zola Majavu confirmed that the case was duly finalised.
After pleading guilty to the charges the Amakhosi was fined R200 000, 50% of which is suspended for a period of 12 months. This is on the condition that the club do not commit the same offence within 12 months.
Kaizer Chiefs will also have to pay the cost of the court sittings.

FootballChiefs included McCarthy and Shabalala in the team after a Covid-19 outbreak at their Naturena facility left them struggling to put together a squad. Both youngsters did not play though, Sports Brief reported.
The players were registered to play in the DStv Diski Challenge and not the DStv Premiership, which is why they were charged by the PSL. Chiefs appeared before the Disciplinary Committee today and pleaded guilty to the charge, Soccer Laduma reported.
