FIFA slaps Senegal with severe sanctions after flashing lasers in World Cup blockbuster against Salah’s Egypt
FootballHow Match Fixing Scandal Poured Cold Water on Promising Ghanaian Player Seth Osei’s Trial in Austria
- The Ghana Football Association cracked the whip on match manipulation with Ashgold and Inter Allies as well as players involved in the scandal feeling the full wrath of the football federation
- Both clubs have suffered demotion to Division Two while the players involved in the match-fixing saga received varying degrees of bans
- Among the affected players include a promising youngster who was supposed to travel to Europe for trials this month
Ashantigold SC attacker Seth Osei will miss a golden opportunity to trial with Austrian side SK Austria Klagenfurt, reports Sports World Ghana.
Osei was billed to travel to Austria this month for his trial which would have lasted for a month following his impressive performance last season.
However, his European dream has hit a snag following yesterday's release from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) which slapped various degrees of sanctions on the culprits involved in the match-fixing scandal which surfaced after Ashgold played Inter Allies in last season's final league game.
It would be recalled that the GFA released the verdict of the much-anticipated Ashgold vs Inter Allies game which was shrouded in match-fixing allegations.
Both clubs have been demoted to the third tier of the Ghanaian football pyramid while a raft of players have been hit with bans including Seth Osei.
The 22-year-old forward was slapped with 30 months (2 and half years) of ban from active football due to his involvement in the match-fixing scandal which occurred at the backend of last season.
Due to the aforementioned ruling by the Disciplinary Committee of the GFA, Seth Osei's trial with SK Austria Klagenfurt will not suffice.
Ashgold slapped with demotion over match-fixing scandal
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghana Premier League giants Ashantigold have been demoted to the second division of Ghanaian football after they were found guilty of match manipulation.
The Miners were punished for manipulating the final day clash between them and Inter Allies last season, where Hashim Musah awkwardly scored two bizarre own goals in the 7-0 defeat to Ashantigold.
The Ghana Football Association released their finding on Monday morning and have punished several players and management members for their role in the game.
