John Fashanu Ridicules Nigerian Football Federation Following Appointment of Peseiro As Super Eagles Coach

Former England and Wimbledon striker, John Fashanu, says he is very disappointed that the Nigeria Football Federation appointed Jose Peseiro as the new Super Eagles coach.

The Nigerian descent expressed doubts over the ability of the Portuguese tactician to handle the Super Eagle,s saying the next six months will show what he meant.

The NFF announced on Sunday that Peseiro has been officially appointed the coach of the Super Eagles with immediate effect.

According to the football body, former Nigerian international Finidi George who is the current coach of NPFL side Enyimba will serve as the first assistant, while Salisu Yusuf and Usman Abdallah are second and third assistants respectively.

In a chat with PUNCH, Fashanu stated that he hopes the move for Peseiro will not be regretted. He said:

“There is an old saying that if you haven’t gotten anything nice to say, just shut up. I have nothing nice to say about him (Peseiro) because I know him very well and I’m just disappointed that the NFF had gone for him.

“I think in the next six months or a year I believe Nigerians will be screaming and I hope we don’t regret his appointment.

“I am very surprised and I’m short of words at the moment. Also, considering the money he is going to receive because I know he won’t be paid anything less than £20,000 to £30,000 monthly.”

So far in his career, Peseiro has managed several clubs including Sporting Lisbon, Porto, and was an assistant at Real Madrid.

During his spell as a manager, he managed 627 matches, won 307, drew 148 and lost 172.

FIFA orders NFF to pay all outstanding to Rohr

Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported that the NFF has been ordered to pay the sum of $1,045,000 (about N 433,873,550.00) to German coach Gernot Rohr with immediate effect.

Rohr was sacked by the Nigerian football house on the eve of the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations and he left the country unceremoniously.

A close associate of the Franco-German tactician disclosed that FIFA stated that Nigeria had no justifiable claim to fire the coach in December.
