Ghana Premier League giants Ashantigold have been demoted to the second division of Ghanaian football after they were found guilty of match manipulation.

The Miners were punished for manipulating the final day clash between them and Inter Allies last season, where Hashim Musah awkwardly scored two bizarre own goals in the 7-0 defeat to Ashantigold.

The Ghana Football Association released their finding on Monday morning and have punished several players and management members for their role in the game.

"Ashantigold will be demoted to Division Two after being found guilty of Match Manipulation in their 2020/21 Ghana Premier League matchday 34 game against Inter Allies.
"The decision will take effect from 2022/23 season.
"Officials and players of the above mentioned teams have also been sanctioned."

Ashantigold president Dr Kweku Frimpong banned for ten years over match fixing

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ashantigold SC Chairman Kweku Frimpong has been slapped with a ten-year ban and fined GHC 100,000 for match manipulation.

Frimpong was found guilty on three counts of misconduct for match manipulation in their game against Inter Allies at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on July 17, 2021. During the game, Inter Allies defender,

Ghana Premier League hit with corruption scandal

The Ghana Premier League has been hit with a bribery scandal following alleged reports of match fixing in the game between Ashantigold and Inter Allies.

The already relegated Inter Allies were thumped 7-0 on Saturday after defender Hashim Musah scored two unscrupulous own goals.

In a video circulating on social media posted by Kessben, sighted by YEN.com.gh, the goals conceded by Inter Allies were shocking, raising questions about the game.
