Royal AM contested a KwaZulu-Natal derby against Lamontville Golden Arrows but could only secure a draw in a four-goal thriller.

Mfundo Thikazi gave Shauwn Mkhize’s side the lead in the ninth minute but it was cancelled out nine minutes later by Pule Mmodi.

Mokete Mogaila gave Royal AM the lead again at the half-hour mark before Nduduzo Sibiya converted a penalty to bring his Golden Arrows side level.

Cape Town City also played out to a goalless draw as failed to get past AmaZulu FC. Kaizer Chiefs were the big winners in the hunt for second spot as they beat Sekhukhune United 1-0.

Ramahlwe Mphahlele gave the Amakhosi the lead and the win with a goal in the 38th minute.

The results mean that Cape Town City remain in second place, three points above both Royal AM and Kaizer Chiefs. Shauwn Mkhize’s side have a game in hand however as they could not play Orlando Pirates last week.

DStv Premiership match wrap: Cape Town City climbs up to second with TS Galaxy win (highlights)

Cape Town City made its move for CAF Champions League participation next season by climbing up to second on the DStv Premiership table. They did so with a 2-0 victory in an end-to-end encounter against TS Galaxy at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town.

Darwin Gonzalez opened the scoring in the 17th minute before Mduduzi Mdantsane settled the match from the penalty spot in the 83rd match. With Royal AM out of action this weekend, the Cityzens took a free run at second place on the log standings, reaching 48 points having played one more match than Thwihli Thwahla.

Should the standings remain like this for the rest of the season, City will be South Africa's other representative in the continent's premier club competition, Sports Brief earlier reported.
