Former Liverpool star Danny Murphy has warned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be sacked as manager if he fails to win the Europa League for Man United this season.

The Europa League is the only title United are realistically competing in having been dumped out of the FA Cup in the quarter-finals by Leicester City on Sunday, March 21.

The Red Devils were stunned 3-1 at the King Power Stadium in the one-legged affair to miss out on a chance to progress to the semifinals.

And with the side trailing rivals and league leaders Man City by a massive 14 points, the Europa League is the only title they stand a chance to win this season having also been bundled out of the EFL Cup and the Champions League earlier in the season.

However, having secured a place in the last eight of the second tier European tournament, United could go all out and win the competition to end the season with a silverware.

They have been pooled with Spanish side Granada in the quarters, and will face the winner between Ajax and AS Roma in the semis.

With the Old Trafford dwellers now among favourites to cart home the title, Murphy has cautioned Ole risks the sack if he does not end his trophy drought with the title.

"I like him (Solskjaer) and I'm not one who wants to see managers sacked and I do think they have made some strides forward, but Manchester United have to be doing better," Murphy told talkSPORT as cited by Daily Mail.
"If they don't win the Europa League and only finish in the top four then I think they'll make a change," he added.

Meanwhile, earlier reported that fans of Premier League outfit Tottenham have called on the sacking of Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho, no thanks to their early exit from the Europa League.

Spurs blew their 2-0 first leg lead against Dinamo Zagreb to allow the Croatian side score three unreplied goals in the reverse fixture and dump them out of the tournament.

Mislav Orsic emerged match hero during the encounter, scoring a stunning hat-trick to help Zagreb book a place in the quarter-finals of the European competition on a 3-2 goal aggregate.
