Despite dumping Arsenal more than a decade ago for a move to Barcelona, Cesc Fabregas continues to keep a close eye on the Gunners.

The former Gunners captain recently opened up on his former side's spectacular campaign that has them on the verge of making a return to the Champions League.

Fabregas was quick to point out four Arsenal players who have impressed him this season, backing them to form a major part of the club's rebuild.

The former Barcelona and Chelsea midfielder specifically name-checked Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Smith Rowe, and Gabriel Martinelli.

Speaking during an interview with LondonWorld, Fabregas said:

"There are three or four [players] that I really like. I feel sometimes like I’m watching myself when I first started out."

"You have the likes of Saka, Martinelli, Odegaard, Smith Rowe… it’s great to see," he added.

Fabregas was a fan favourite during his spell with the Gunners and was one of the most revered young players at the time.

The Spaniard made his debut for Arsenal aged just 16 and was named the club's captain at just 21.

Despite his otherwise impressive career at Highbury and the Emirates spanning eight years, the midfielder managed to lift only the FA Cup in 2005.

However, he went on to win several trophies after his move to Barcelona and later with Chelsea.

Now aged 35, Fabregas is overseeing the sunset years of his career at French side, Monaco.
