FootballRalf Rangnick set to miss out on huge bonus after failing to guide Manchester United to top four finish
- Ralf Rangnick took charge at Manchester United with the club in seventh place 12 points behind the league leaders in November
- Months down the line and United seem to have headed further back in terms of progress, and will not be in the Champions League next season
- While negotiating his interim deal, Rangnick was offered an interesting incentive should he guide United into the top four, but he is set to miss out on it
Ralf Rangnick reportedly missed out on an enormous bonus following Manchester United’s failure to qualify for the Champions League.
The Red Devils’ fate was sealed after a lowly defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday, May 7, and focus will now shift to either the Europa League or the third-tier Europa Conference League.
According to a report on The Mirror, Rangnick was promised a staggering £1million bonus’ if he somehow managed to steer the club to a Champions League place finish.
When he was appointed in November 2021, Rangnick took charge with Manchester United in seventh place, 12 points behind the then league leaders Chelsea.
However, months on and the German has failed to turn the club’s fortunes around, with United set to record their lowest points tally in recent times.
At the moment, focus is purely to finish the season on a high, as United cannot mathematically qualify for the Champions League with games running out.
Sixth place is also not guaranteed for United as West Ham are also on the hunt for a Europa League place, and are better placed than the Red Devils, having played a game less.
Meanwhile, Rangnick is set to take over the Austria managerial job when his interim spell at United comes to an end.
Regardless, he is still set for a consultancy role at Old Trafford.
