FootballPatrice Evra Says Man City Boss Pep Guardiola Is a ‘Control Freak’ & Can’t Train Players With Personality
- Pep Guardiola does not want leaders in his team and he is unable to train players with personalities, according to Patrice Evra
- The Manchester City trainer has been accused in the past of being a control freak with a phobia of players who will challenge his authority in the dressing room
- Zlatan Ibrahimovic and African football great Samuel Eto'o who worked with Guardiola during his days as head coach of FC Barcelona have all raised eyebrows about the Spaniard's tendency for absolute control
Erstwhile France and Manchester United fullback Patrice Evra has launched a scathing attack on Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.
The Man United legend believes Guardiola builds a team he can have complete control over and hence the reason why he is reluctant at working with players with big 'personalities.'
Evra's comments stem from Man City's collapse against Real Madrid in the Champions League, where the Citizens threw away a 5-3 aggregate lead in the dying embers of their semifinal tie.
Pep and his charges were however able to overcome their midweek disappointment to record a comprehensive 5-0 win over Newcastle United to boost their Premier League ambitions but Evra was unimpressed.
"Manchester City needs leaders, but Guardiola doesn't want leaders," Evra told Prime Video, via Marca.
"He doesn't want personality. He's the leader. That's why when they're in trouble they don't want to. They don't have anyone on the pitch to help them."
Evra added: "He chooses his teams like that, he can't train people with personality. He did it at Barcelona, but he builds his team to control everyone. When things go wrong, he always decides."
