  • Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Manchester United last summer as his former boss Sir Alex Ferguson inspired the move
  • The Portuguese striker has found the back of the net 24 times for the Red Devils this season, but they have no place in next season’s Champions League
  • The Portuguese striker is said to be having a series of meetings with Sir Alex over his future at the Old Trafford club

With Manchester United missing out on this season’s Champions League, reports say Cristiano Ronaldo has held private meetings with his former boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ferguson was instrumental to CR7’s return to the Old Trafford last summer after the Portuguese striker left Italian giants Juventus.

Mirror reports that Ronaldo is currently discussing his future with Sir Alex as they have held a series of private meetings over the player’s future.

It was gathered that Ronaldo and Ferguson both live in Cheshire and they have held discussions over cups of tea at their respective mansions.

Ronaldo is said to be regular at Ferguson’s house while the former manager, in turn, has also visited the player on several occasions.

In 2003, Ferguson first signed the Portuguese sensation to the Theatre of Dreams where he scored 24 goals and he was instrumental in CR7’s return in a £12.9 million move last summer.

The pair have always enjoyed a close relationship – and it's believed Ferguson is keen for Ronaldo to protect his legacy by staying at Old Trafford next season.

Ronaldo has delivered an outstanding season scoring 24 goals for United including hat-tricks against Tottenham and Norwich.

Rangnick apologises to Man Utd fans

Manchester United interim boss, Ralf Rangnick, has apologised to the fans following his side's 4-0 humiliation against Brighton on Saturday, May 7.

United were unable to build on their 3-0 win over Brentford last weekend as they were humbled at the Amex Stadium.

Brighton scored all four goals within the first 60 minutes of the match, with three of those coming in the first 15 minutes of the first half.

Rangnick confirms Ronaldo will star at Man Utd

Sports Brief earlier reported that Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has all but confirmed Cristiano Ronaldo will remain at the club beyond this season.

Ronaldo has been a subject of transfer speculation just a season after he rejoined United from Juventus.

Reports suggest the five-time Ballon d'Or winner could depart Old Trafford at the end of the season for a move elsewhere.

Real Madrid are believed to be the leading side keeping tabs on Ronaldo's situation at United, with the La Liga giants reportedly keen on a reunion with their former star.
