Jose Mourinho had a special message for his former side Real Madrid ahead of the UEFA Champions League final on May 28.

Real Madrid, the most successful club in the competition, booked another slot in the final after a famous 6-5 win aggregate win over Manchester City on Wednesday.

It was Rodrygo who was the hero of the day as he scored two quickfire goals in the dying stages to force the match into extra time just when it looked like Manchester City had booked their place in the final through Riyad Mahrez’s goal.

Karim Benzema then scored from the penalty spot in extra time to confirm Manchester City’s capitulation, as an emotional Carlo Ancelotti continued his quest for the La Liga and Champions League double.

The final will be a repeat of the 2018 edition, where Real Madrid triumphed over Liverpool.

Mourinho was speaking on Thursday, March 6 at the back of Roma’s win over Leicester City as he also booked a slot in a European final – the Europa Conference League.

Roma won 1-0 at the Stadio Olympico thanks to Tammy Abraham’s header, after a 1-1 draw in the first leg in England.

Speaking after the game, Mourinho said:

"They are a club that I have in my heart. Real Madrid are great and Carletto (Ancelotti) is great! Let's see if we win the (UCL) final."

Of course Mourinho would back Real Madrid to win the competition as he was managed at Los Blancos from 2010 to 2013, at a time when he enjoyed an iconic rivalry with Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona.

Mourinho wept

As Sports Brief reported, Mourinho could not hold back his tears after Roma’s qualification for the Europa Conference League final.

The Italian side will face off with Feyenoord in the final on May 25, after the Dutch side saw off Olympique de Marseille.

The Portuguese manager addressed his tears in the post-match interview, saying:

"Why did I shed a tear? Because I feel what [the fans] all feel. It’s a giant club without a trophy room for the social importance of this club."
