- Rangers FC will meet Eintracht Frankfurt in the 2022 UEFA Europa League final at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium in Seville
- Goals from James Tavernier, Glen Kamara and John Lundstram gave the home side a deserved 3-1 victory over RB Leipzig for a 3-2 aggregate victory
- In preventing an all-German final with the victory, Rangers became the first Scottish team to make a European final since 2003
Rangers FC was too good for RB Leipzig in a 3-1 semifinal second leg victory which sent the Scottish team to the 2022 UEFA Europa League final.
The result, in front of an impassioned and raucous Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow, overturned Leipzig's 1-0 advantage from Germany last week for a 3-2 aggregate victory in the Scottish team's favour. The result denied the western European country an all-German final, as Eintracht Frankfurt defeated West Ham in the other semifinal.
James Tavernier opened the scoring for Rangers in the 18th minute of the match to level the tie. Before everyone inside the stadium and at home had the chance to catch their breath, Glen Kamara doubled the lead in the 24th minute for the go-ahead goal.
The rocking German side finally found its footing in the second half in an atmospheric venue that threatened all evening to overwhelm them. The much-admired Christian Nkunku struck in the 70th minute to pull one back, levelling the tie 2-2 and sparking nerves in the home supporters.
However, Rangers played like a team chasing destiny, and this showed when John Lundstram bundled the ball home in the 80th minute to settle the matter once and for all for a deserved victory.
The final of the tournament will take place on Wednesday, 18 May.
